Sports in Japan

Friday, July 31st, 2009
James Sherard asked:

Observing and participating in various sports are popular activities in Japan enjoyed by people of all ages and social classes. The origins of sports in Japan dates from the twelfth century, when the military nobility known as samurai introduced events such as kendo, (Japanese stick close) Kyudo, jujustu of ANDA (the archery), (judo) to the populous. These athletic games were eventually established as martial arts in the Edo period (1600-1868), with the focus on mastering the mental aspects of each activity in hopes of raising the participant to a nobler, more transcendent level. These sports have been passed down from generation to generation, and still thrive today. The best, which also has a long history as a martial art, traditional originated approximately 2000 years ago in a ceremonial dance used to entertain Shinto gods,  and is considered Japan 's national sport Even today the event includes ritualistic elements derived from the Shinto religion of Thea as tossing salt to the soil at the beginning of each match as a means of symbolic purification. The rules of sumo are absolutely essential. Two wrestlers called rikishi face off in a circular ring called a dohyo and wrestler first touches the floor with any part of the body except the sole of his feet, or are removed from the ring by your opponent loses . The fight itself is usually over within seconds, but on rare occasions can take up to a minute or longer. Six tournaments are conducted throughout the year, each lasting 15 days. Western sports were introduced from Japan with the eventual arrival of the Meiji Restoration, including baseball in 1872. Baseball has since developed into one of the country 's most popular spectator sports, with thousands of enthusiastic fans attending professional games held each season at the stadium found ina all major cities in the country. The games are also broadcast live on television several times a week, which gives teams of both leagues (the Central and the Pacific), consisting of six teams each. The recent years have also seen a rise in the number of Japanese players who are currently playing with success in the American major leagues, whose games are covered extensively with the media in Japan. Teams of college and high school are numerous, and all the baseball championship of the High School of Japan conducted each summer and televised across the nation is seen by millions. Baseball competent with the nations most popular sport is football, which made it 's principle in 1993 with the introduction of J-League, a professional soccer league consisting of two divisions, J1 and J2. Football had been played by amateurs for many years in Japan, but it 's the appeal of Japan gained momentum after the' national football team participated in the s world cup in France in 1998.Following close behind in view of football in Japan is renowned for the first time golf. The rise of the bubble economy of the 80 's and the wealth that followed quickly brought golf into the forefront as one of the most popular games in the country. Enjoyed in the past by only a little inside, soon grew in favor from? average? Manna from the salary? of? â, which used it as a means to expand its network business to play a round or two on Sunday with potential customers. The grades of membership in prestigious clubs at that time were in such demand that cost anywhere from 100 to 400 million yen, and were sought by large companies who hoped to settle in the ranks of those who most often deals closed in the golf course in the conference room. Due to the increase in the number of players and limited space available, the prospect of playing golf for the average person in Japan is still expensive, making an average price of 20,000 yen and up for 18 holes, with fees cart and lunch usually not included. Another consideration when the representation of the cost of playing golf in Japan is the hole? of? in a â? of? of insuranceâ. Those who are fortunate (or unfortunate enough) to sink the elusive hole? of? in â? of? of ONEA celebrate the event by paying the entire fellow member 's fee that day as well as the provision of expensive gifts in the present. So the insurance was made available for purchase to cover the residual cost for these experts to make this quite difficult shot. And enjoy golf, baseball and football, the Japanese due to an increase in leisure time available now are participating in recent years than ever before in an array of sports activities including activities, weight training, the long distance running, the calisthenics, the aerobics, dance, jazz, baseball with a soft ball, swimming, badminton, volleyball, cycling, tennis, table tennis, billiards,  and roll. High-risk sports such as diving helmet, slipped down and riding the backs of horses also are gaining fame.

My Early Musings Of Sports

Saturday, July 18th, 2009
David BROWN asked:

Today I feel like musing over the years playing sports. Some moons have passed since the old guy got completely dirty in the red dirt of north Texas, but my mind is still clear about our fun! The home of Wayne basically established league baseball park in Iowa He has always been an idol of mine. He fixed games and practices on a diamond without even grass near the field and no fence. Was a field full of dirt. We had no game jerseys or shirts with numbers to prove which team starring. We had two sticks and a few balls with the team ready to fuck anyone who was brave enough to play the position of collector. Our practices were after school and summer. ¡Evenings from last May through the middle of July were blazingly hot! Always in practice four or 'register while the school still in session and then at five o' register when school let out for summer. Usually at this time, the temperature was around 105 degrees. The practices were unfortunate not cover our heads curtain except Mesquite trees that were quite close to the diamond. What was the worst practice is that our car appeared to rarely ever practice. Being eager to show up early with anticipation only to be disappointed by the demonstration of no! He demonstrated for the games, but practices were just hot and boring not expecting anything. Kill the time playing catch, prosecute, and a boy named Bobby Tatum appeared generally get excited and look as he took the ends of cigarettes and smoked them. Baseball with the best achieved through the years, the home of Wayne and I had a great time playing under the hot sun in the park of Iowa, Texas. As I grew older, some of my classmates came to be interested in pesos. Peers not called the weight training exercises, but just simply weights. You are asked to lift weights today? The first weights I remember seeing was a bar with two plates of 25 pounds. I think the total was 75 pounds. Not exactly what we call a fixed weight today! Cars Carter and Howington had spent their own money to buy this bar and plates for the shot and disc launchers. Also be used for installation of lines football. One bar @ st class named Jimmy Gillespie was the first to lift and use this to really heavyweight. Still I hear the question of whether he could lift 75 pounds on my head. My knees were quaking; portions were doubts whether this request was possible. Jimmy replied that he's told that he did not know. The lift was successful! What A Relief! From that point forward, stay off the weights was a priority. 1962 was the year. Would still be years before the benefit of weight training outbreak in popularity. The 1973 years I found the help of my dear friend Robert Hailey started a weight program in Calvert, Texas. Roberto is an extremely intelligent person who carries out the degrees of Rice University and the University of Texas A @ M. Roberto is a man of vision with a desire to achieve best in any endeavor. We had a foundry in town and helped to load the source plates and bars. They were helpful in all that we ask. Soon, we decided to do a fundraiser and bought a local gymnastics Marcy with money earned. This was successful! Our kids got up and worked hard to develop their bodies. No one in our area stood at that time. We were several years ahead of other schools! Our success was only possible because elevation Roberto Hailey saw the big picture and was an assistant (me) who want the kids to become well. We teach not only weight training, but also proper nutrition. The story is an important line to me. I like to look back to see how I can improve on my current situation. I learned this important men in my life. Men like Wayne's house, Roberto Carretero and Hailey and train Howington. These men look forward to the challenges that were not very popular and pushed the issue to success! You know, looking back to see how it really is an awesome idea to go ahead. Men, thanks for the maps presented on the way to trip on me! You are the best!.

Video Replay A Positive For Fencing

Thursday, July 9th, 2009
Craig Harkins asked:

One of the changes to the level of fencing in the world cup is the advent of video review of the response of touch. This came into the game after the men 'Chinese; team sheet s felt that the referee in his fight for the gold medal andalusia favored Italian team. In a recent interview with multiple world champion Stanislav Pozdniakov asked the champion of Russian sable about using the video response. While some people saying it could disrupt the momentum of battle, the other people are saying that maybe can be used to your advantage if she needs a break, if she needs to catch its breath. When asked: How do you feel about arbitration video? Pozdniakov replied, "Total, I like video arbitration. But there is a situation now that if you are weak - weak directors then he takes it and makes it even more obvious that this director is not on the level of lead. Because if he can not at first, and then get the right place even after the arbitration video, he can not get right, then creates a problem because it 's obvious that this director is all just a director. "Weak"; ; Arbitration of the video is very important - extremely important because it gives me an opportunity to really make a break when I need it really - take a break - a - like - even in the situation when I know I lost touch, use the video referee to tactical advantage that my taking this break and change the momentum. "The answer looks to be video here to stay and is being disclosed lit by many of the favorable Cercador higher. Something that one way to delay the battle, is using it more to make sure the referee gets the calls right - that is paramount in any sport.

The Ancient Olympic Games in Greece and China

Thursday, May 28th, 2009
Himfr Ivy asked:

The ancient Olympic Games were an event of four years with sporting activities as its main content and the cessation of hostilities among the city states of Greece as its main feature. In those days, China also experienced divisions from time to time. There was the period of Spring and Autumn (770-476 BC) and the period of the states that wars (475-221 BC) during the Zhou Dynasty before the First Emperor of Qin (259-210 BC) to unify the empire Chinese of the whole. After the Han dynasty (206BC-AD220), the main part of China was divided again during the Three Kingdoms period (220-280), to be reunified under the Jin court. As in ancient Greece, was of course intervals of peace between wars among the states or kingdoms — not as a result of the proclamation of truce during the Olympic Games which were non-existent in ancient China, but as a result of maneuvers diplomatic or military deterrent forces. After all, there is the universal law of "split after long unity and unity that after the party is over," as Chinese philosophers put it. However, the lack of games does not necessarily mean non-existence of sports. As a matter of face, there are sports whenever and wherever human activities. The man should take the sport to keep fit for survival and for fun after work. To gather food, hunters in the palaeolithic times not only invented tools, such as stone axes, balls, hooks, spear points and networks, but also learned how to use them more efficiently, knowing that only a constitution and the strongest ability to run and swim faster, jump higher and to throw a projectile farther and with greater precision could they catch more game and fish. This was the origin of the current jump, the launch and swimming events which calculate such a large part in the Olympic Games today, and whose origin can be attributed only to human instincts that something of a race or an individual in a particular particular time. The stone balls excavated in the county of Gaoyang in China 's Shanxi Province dating from 100,000 years and is thought to have been used not only in hunting, but also in throwing skills as athletes do in shot putting today . Archery, another Olympic event, has appeared in the mythology of many nations. The odyssey that was to have killed his wife 's of suitors with his bow and arrows. A Chinese legend has it that during the Yao times many thousand years ago, a marksman named Hou Yi shot down nine of 10suns in the sky that had seared all plants on earth. Even today, the bows and arrows are still used among many ethnic groups in China as a weapon to kill animals and in archery as a popular sporting event. In ancient times men were devoted not only in flight with nature, but also in flight among themselves. Therefore sport has another aim: to improve the ability to beat the enemy, with or without weapons. During the rule of the Yellow Emperor, has been held as the first ancestor of the Chinese nation, a rebel tribe headed by Chiyou trained his warriors in fighting with cow horns fastened to the head, which was included in the "hundreds Amusements" and converted into various forms of struggle in subsequent generations. Military training in ancient China included all kinds of martial arts such as wrestling, boxing, fencing, tripodlifting, horse-racing, stone-throwing, swimming and searching. During the period of spring and autumn, a senior official in Qi state named Guan Zhong (? - 645 BC) ordered the building of pools leading water of three rivers and awarded heavy prizes to good swimmers among his "water troops." A copper pot excavated in Chengdu in Sichuan Province is inscribed with a battle on the water in those days. Among the Greeks there is note of occasional swimming races, and a famous boxer swam as part of their training. Sports also responded to almost military purposes in a ancient Greece, especially in Sparta where all citizens received the stoic military training from early childhood, in the same sports as in ancient China. According to historical records written during the period states that war, the Chinese kings and emperors ordered their officers to teach archery, charioteering, and struggling in the winter and "required the populace to spend six hours to two hours and grew practicing martial arts everyday. "The ancient Greek and Chinese civilizations shared another thing in common in sporting activities, ie, they were often combined with dancing. A pot in the Neolithic Age excavated in Qinghai Province 's Datong County shows the inner surface in three groups of dancers. It is said that at those times China was hit by frequent torrential rains and floods and people suffered a lot of wet weather charms intact. To relax the bones and muscles tighten and dispel their gloomy moods, bailarían a dance class that "could lead the flow of blood and vital energy in the body." The military training also included dances and there Sparta choreographic competitions was in the ancient Olympic Games. I really had little or no difference between physical exercises and dances like the case with such modern sports as figure skating and artistic and rhythmic gymnastics. What should be marked here is that sports were included in the educational system in ancient China and Greece. During the Zhou Dynasty and the previous Xia (21st — sixteenth century BC) and Shang (sixteenth — dynasties of the eleventh century BC), all seats of learning were at the same time places for teaching martial arts. The great Chinese philosopher and educator Confucius (551-479 BC) were also good athlete in archery and charioteering and took an active part in fishing, hunting, hiking and hill-climbing. Giving equal attention to moral, intellectual and physical development of its 3,000 pupils, he created an educational system of "Six Arts," namely, rituals, music, archery, charioteering on, writing and mathematics, which were further each other. In archery, for example, he insisted on proper conduct, or what we call "sportsmanship" today, stating that an archer should do his best to win and what 's more important, "be modest and observe rituals." In addition, he advised people to observe a good dietary habit, to abstain from meat dish and let the old and make a meal. These guiding principles were similar to those of the great Greek philosopher Plato (428-348 BC) who held that physical training and sanitation should feel good to important parts of education and that one must train their sports and shape up with his temper with music. Curriculum in his time included gymnastics, which was widened to embrace hygiene and dietetics. The Greek gymnasium also taught philosophy, literature and music, and public libraries were nearby. It is interesting to note that Chinese educators and Greeks in ancient times emphasized that physical training should be tailored to various ages. According to the work Li Ji (Book of rites), children of the classic Chinese must learn the "dances" civil in 13, "Dance" martial, at 15, and archery and charioteering at older ages. Plato also advocated different sports for different age groups — music and singing for 7-12, dancing, fighting, archery and horsemanship for 12-17 and more physical training for 17-20.Whether out of necessity or the historical contingency, sports in ancient China and Greece were closely combined with productive work, military training, dancing and the whole educational system, thus providing an ideological foundation for China 's list of acceptance of the Olympic ideals modern, which were deeply rooted in classical Greek society, despite the cessation of the centuries of Olympic Games for15.
